Rationale and Concepts

I wanted to post some brief thoughts that I'm working with in relation this group, let me know if you would like to exchange ideas about them. I feel that higher functioning young adults in this area tend to be underserved. I think that we can often we our own best resources by providing support and networking. Higher Functioning is a self defined thing. I am also intrigued by a newer model of disability, the Social Adapted Model. The Social Adapted Model of Disability builds on Social Model– maintains that most of problems of disability relate to societal and environmental failures to accommodate, but individual limitations must also be taken into account. Not all members of society are equally able to function in society, for a variety of reasons. This applies to able bodied neurotypicals as much as it does people with disabilities, I think-- things like function tend to exist along a continuum. Whatever the rationale is, I think that in practice a group like ours should be able to provide us with an opportunity to learn from each other. We can discuss things like issues that may come-- perhaps things related to stuff like school, employment, social things? We can also interact and practice those social skills, if desired.

*Please Note that anyone under the age of 18 will need to be signed into the meeting by a parent/guardian. I am working on the form and will have it ready soon, in case any parents would like to see that ahead of time.
